GREENSBORO, N.C. – Basketball standout Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) earned her first Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award of the season Monday her performance last week against Averett University. The prize is presented weekly by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Oglesby, a 6-0 forward, paced the Quakers in their 72-49 road win over Averett Nov. 20, scoring a game- and season-high 19 points. She tallied 12 points in the first-half to give Guilford a 29-22 halftime lead. Oglesby made eight-of-16 shots from the field and added six rebounds.
Through four games, Oglesby is tied for first on the team with 9.8 points per game with teammate Morgan King. She ranks second on the squad with 6.2 rebounds along with sophomore Logan Hardin.
Oglesby has helped coach Stephanie Flamini’s Quakers to a 3-1 start. Guilford hosts Meredith College Monday night at 7:00 p.m. and opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday (11/28) versus visiting Eastern Mennonite University at 5:30 p.m.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive and the promotion of Champs Life Skills, which promotes intercollegiate athletics as a key part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Its aim is to increase student-athletes’ community involvement and to engage the greater Guilford community with the athletic department.
