High Point Women’s Basketball Falls at Davidson

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team lost to Davidson, 59-43 in a non-conference road contest on Wednesday. Junior Cheyenne Parker had 20 points,12 rebounds and four blocks.

“Davidson came out with more energy and intensity tonight,” said head coach DeUnna Hendrix. “They are a quality team and they dominated on the boards. It took us a while to get going but we stayed with them in the second half and didn’t quit.”

Parker posted her seventh double-double in nine games this year adding to her national lead. She also had four blocks and four steals in the game. Junior Tayler Tremblay had six points and three assists.

Sophia Aleksandravicius led Davidson with 30 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks. Katrin Chiemeka added 10 points and five rebounds.

The Panthers move to 4-5 on the season and Davidson improved to 3-4.

High Point got off to a slow start offensively, and with 9:22 remaining in the opening period Davidson had opened up a 10-point lead, 17-7. The Panthers were held scoreless for the next three minutes as the Wildcats stretched the lead to 24-7. Lexi Patterson drained a three with 5:53 on the clock to make it a 24-10 game.

Stacia Robertson and Parker had a pair of layups in the final minutes to send High Point to the locker room down 28-14 at the half.

The Panthers kept pace with Davidson in the second half but couldn’t overcome the first-half deficit. The Wildcats outscored HPU by just three points in the second, 31-28.

High Point’s smallest deficit of the second half was 12 points after Parker sank two free throws with 3:40 on the clock. Aleksandravicius pushed the lead back to 19 with her final basket of the nigh and Davidson went on to win 59-42.

Robertson had five points and six rebounds in the game. Sophomore Lexi Patterson also added five points.

The Panthers are off for 10 days for exams before the next game. High Point will play at USC Upstate on Dec. 16 at 3 p.m.
