GREENSBORO — After 64 years at the only home it’s ever known, the annual East-West All-Star football game will be played at a new site next summer.

Phil Weaver, an executive director of the North Carolina Coaches Association, said Friday that the 65th East-West football game will be played at Simeon Stadium in High Point.

The game — which is played in July and features high school senior players from all over North Carolina — has been played at Grimsley’s Jamieson Stadium every year since 1949.

A construction project at Grimsley prompted the move, Weaver said.

“The parking lots are going to be torn up, and we just can’t play there,” Weaver said. “We looked around at other sites. A&T is hosting a big track meet, so we couldn’t do it there. The next-best alternative was Simeon Stadium.”
