Women’s College Basketball Final – Guilford 54, Virginia Wesleyan 50

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) and Morgan King (Teachey, N.C./New Hanover) enjoyed their second double-doubles of the season in Guilford’s 54-50 road win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-foe Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday.

The game was tied at 50 when the Marlins’ Sarah Seipp made a clutch three-pointer with 47 seconds on the clock. Brittany Atwater was fouled while making a layup with 19 seconds remaining and Coach Flamini called a quick timeout. Atwater made her free throw, putting the Quakers up 53-50. Virginia Wesleyan fouled Morgan King in desperation to get the ball back with :04 on the clock. She made one free throw to clinch the win.

The Quakers (7-2, 2-1 ODAC) improved from 22.9% shooting from the floor in the first half to over 50% in the second to claim the conference win. The game was tight from the tipoff, as the Quakers never lead by more than four and never trailed by more than seven.

Oglesby had game-highs in points (16) and rebounds (15). Morgan King contributed 12 points and 12 boards. The frontcourt tandem also had two blocks apiece. Brittany Drew added nine points. Atwater totaled five points, five assists and eight rebounds. Kayla Adams dished out five assists.

Kelly Jones paced the Marlins (5-4, 2-1 ODAC). She scored 13 points and had three rebounds off the bench. Brittany Glasco added nine points and five assists. Katie Tassa snatched eight rebounds.

The Quakers next play home Jan. 5 against Randolph-Macon College at 2:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
