Thomas Named All-American by College Soccer News

ELON, N.C. – Elon senior forward Chris Thomas earned his second All-American accolade in less than a week as he was named to the College Soccer News second team as announced Monday by the publication. Thomas was recently honored as a third-team All-American by the NSCAA on Friday, Dec. 7, and was a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.

Thomas became the sixth player in Elon history to earn All-American laurels and the first since Dave Myers in 1993, but the first since the program entered Division I play in 1999.

Thomas had one of the most prolific scoring seasons in Elon men’s soccer history, setting single-season marks with 23 goals and 51 total points, leading the nation in both categories. The striker from Snellville, Ga., broke Mike Wessels’ 24-year record to become the program’s all-time goal and point scorer this season with 53 career goals and 116 total career points.

Thomas has racked up a number of Southern Conference awards throughout his four years at Elon and was named the league’s Player of the Year and a first team All-SoCon selection for the second time in his career. He also earned the SoCon’s Player of the Month for September and October and tied the conference’s all-time record with six career weekly awards.

He helped Elon return to the NCAA Tournament after scoring two goals during the Phoenix’s run to the championship in the SoCon Men’s Soccer Tournament. He was named to the All-Tournament team after the maroon and gold captured its second consecutive SoCon tournament title.

Earlier in the year, Thomas also garnered national attention from the CSN by naming him its National Player of the Week after the Phoenix’s upset of then sixth-ranked Charlotte on Sept. 22. Thomas was also recognized as the NSCAA/Disney National Player of the Week as well.

Elon finished 15-5-2 on the season and was both the SoCon regular-season and tournament champions, the first time that the program captured both titles in the same season.
