Elon Women’s Basketball Set for 2012 Finale

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (4-6) will close out 2012 and its three-game away swing with a contest at nearby North Carolina A&T (6-5) on Monday, Dec. 31. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in the Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Last Time Out
Elon suffered a tough loss in its last game at East Carolina on Dec. 29. The Phoenix was down just three, 67-64, to the Pirates with the ball and just over 30 seconds left on the clock. A shot from beyond the arc off the hands of Ali Ford bounced off the backboard and into the hands of an ECU player as the Pirates took the eventual win by a final of 71-64. Kelsey Evans recorded her fifth double-double of the season with game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Ford notched 17 points and seven assists, while Kelsey Harris also scored in double figures with 11.

Scouting the Aggies
A&T is averaging 56.9 points per game and shooting 38 percent from the field. JaQuayla Berry is the team’s leading scorer with 12.5 ppg and the leader on the boards with 6.9 rpg. Amber Calvin also averages in double figures for the Aggies with 10.3 ppg and has been consistent from long range with 20 three-pointers (shooting 50 percent).

The Series
The Phoenix and the Aggies last met on Nov. 20, 2008, with A&T coming up big, 90-60. Elon owns the all-time series with a record of 10-5, however, the Aggies have won the last three match-ups.

Elon on NYE
Monday’s game will mark only the second time the Phoenix has played on New Year’s Eve. Elon fell at West Virginia, 84-36, on the final day of 2011.

Looking Ahead
The Phoenix returns to Alumni Gym on Saturday, Jan. 5, against Samford to begin a stretch of three games in five days. Tip is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
