Elon Phoenix Women’s Basketball Hosts Lady Mocs for SoCon Test Monday

ELON, N.C. – After an impressive conference victory on Saturday, the Elon women’s basketball team (5-7, 2-1) is back in action on Monday, Jan. 5, for a test against Chattanooga (10-2, 3-0) for a 7 p.m. tip in Alumni Gym. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for all youth 12 and under.

Last Time Out
Elon returned to conference action in a big way against Samford with a 65-41 win. The Phoenix led by as much as 32 and saw a season-high 15 points from Kelsey Harris. Kelsey Evans scored 12 points and pulled down nine boards, while Ali Ford finished with 11 points. Jessica Farmer dished out a new career-high six assists as Elon saw action from 12 players and put nine in the scoring column.

Scouting the Lady Mocs
Chattanooga sits at the top of the conference standings with a perfect SoCon record after a 76-46 win at UNCG Saturday. The Lady Mocs opened the season with a victory over Tennessee and have only dropped two games on the season. UTC is averaging 71 points a game and owns a scoring margin of 15.7. Ashlen Dewart is the Lady Mocs leading scorer and rebounder with 15.9 points and 6.6 boards per game, while Kayla Christopher averages 12.4 ppg.

The Series
The Lady Mocs hold a 17-2 all-time advantage over the Phoenix, including a win in both meetings last year. Last year’s game in Alumni Gym was a tight two-point game with 14 minutes left, but UTC was able to pull away for a 59-46 win. Elon’s last win over the Lady Mocs was Jan. 10, 2011, when the Phoenix won in Chattanooga, 74-61.

Forcing Turnovers
Elon forced a season opponent high of 26 turnovers against Samford on Saturday. The Phoenix scored 19 points off those turnovers en route to a 24-point victory.

Looking Ahead
The Phoenix will play its third game in five days at Wofford on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
