High Point Women’s Basketball Tops Coastal Carolina For Fifth Straight Win

CONWAY, S.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team beat Coastal Carolina, 70-54, on Thursday at The HTC Center in Conway, S.C. The Panthers have won five in a row and improve to 4-1 in Big South play. Three Panthers scored in double figures led by junior Cheyenne Parker with her 13th double-double of the season.

Parker scored 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds and three blocks. Redshirt-sophomore Stacia Robertson added 15 points and a career-high five blocks. Sophomore Lexi Patterson tied her career high with 10 points in the game.

Shatia Cole led Coastal Carolina with 14 points off the bench. AJ Jordan scored 11 and Angelica Henry added 10.

The Panthers improved to 10-6 overall with a 4-1 record in Big South play. Coastal Carolina drops to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in league games.

Four different Panthers scored in the first four minutes to give High Point an early 8-4 lead. Coastal Carolina took its only lead of the day, 19-18, with 9:28 on the clock when Cole drained a three-pointer. Kendra Wallace answered with her own tre to put High Point back on top, 21-19. AJ Jordan kept the Chanticleers within two, 23-21, with a layup at 7:54.

Robertson scored on a layup at 6:33 to give HPU a 27-23 lead and spark a 14-0 run. Robertson had the eight points in the run, capped off with a wide-open three-pointer. Junior Tayler Tremblay drove the lane and laid the ball in to complete the run and put HPU up, 39-23. With 47 second left in the first half Coastal Carolina broke a six minute scoreless streak on a layup by Angelica Henry. Patterson hit two free throws and a three pointer in the final 34 seconds to send High Point to the locker room with a 44-26 lead.

High Point maintained the double-digit lead throughout the second half. The biggest lead of the game was 27, 66-39 on a jumper by Patterson with 7:55 to play. The Chanticleers finished the game on an 11-2 run but the Panthers easily won, 70-54.

Tremblay finished the game with eight points and seven assists. Lindsay Puckett and Wallace had five points each.

The Panthers head to Campbell on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game in Buies Creek, N.C.
