HPU Women’s Track and Field Finishes Competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. – The High Point University women’s track and field team wrapped up the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. Sophomore Lauren Blackwell picked up the top HPU finish of the day, placing ninth in the 3,000-meter run.

“It was a solid showing for the team today in Blacksburg,” head coach Mike Esposito said. “Lauren was aggressive in her race. She is a girl who is doing all the right things and working her butt off and I think this performance is the result of that. The 4×400 was a good showing and helps us with seeding for the conference meet.”

Blackwell finished with a career-best time of 10:26.66 to pick up the Panthers only individual top-10 finish of the day.

Freshman Lilla Loránd competed in the 400-meter run for the first time in her career and finished in 14th with a time of 58.75. The finish was Lorand’s second in the top 15 in two races at Blacksburg this weekend.

Lorand combined with Kaitlin Whittington, Michelle Stolz and Emily Fischer in the 4×400-meter relay and the foursome finished in ninth with a time of 3:57.84.

High Point will return to action next weekend when the Panthers head to Lynchburg, Va., to compete in the Liberty Open.
