Game Report: Parkland @ Southwest Guilford

The Cowoboys of Southwest were finally back in action tonight against the visiting Mustangs of Parkland.

Thanks to the weather, it’s been well over a week since the unbeaten Cowboys have seen any game action. The built up energy and tension was ready to burst out as the game opened up. Who would be able to respond to the long break?

It turned out to be an ugly affair as the layover certainly hurt both squads, in fact the only positive was the game announcer. The Mustangs came out and scored the games first 5 points. The Cowboys tooks a long time to shake the cobwebs, and a thunderous tip slam off a missed free-throw by Terrell Leach seemed to be a starting point for them as the opening frame ended with SW up 21-15.

The hosts seemed to be stuck in 1st gear for the second straight quarter however, as the Cowboys took a 44-33 lead going into the break.

The second half started with 6 straight Mustang points to cut it to 44-39 at the 5:50mark. a 5 point spurt by the Cowboys pushed the lead back out, and this time the Cowboys seemed to at least get into 2nd gear, as the frame ended with SW up 66-48. The last stanza of this ugly story actually started well for the Cowboys as the got the lead up to 82-54, and then the lasso seemed to break, as the game turned from ugly to hideous as the Cowboys not only let off the gas, but seemed to get out of the car entirely.

The Mustangs scored the final 12 points to make the final tally closer than the game at 87-74.

The Mustangs fall to 0-6 in the conference, and were lead by Dequan Maddox with 15 points.

Southwest was paced by Terrell Leach (30, 3 Ast, 7 Reb, 2 Blk, 2 Stl), DJ Chamblee (17, 4 Ast, 3 Stl), and KJ Langley (12, 3 Ast, 3 Stl). Southwest remains perfect at 15-0 and 5-0 in the PT4A Conference, and play hosts to Northeast Guilford in a matchup of heavy weights in the State rankings of 3A and 4A.
