Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Blows by Averett 95-73

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — On a special day for Greensboro College athletics, The Pride men’s basketball team (9-8 Overall, 4-5 USA South) rolled to a 95-73 victory over Averett (7-10 Overall, 3-5 USA South) on Saturday afternoon. After Greensboro took care of business, The Pride athletics department held a special ceremony to honor and dedicate the court in honor of Mayo C. Harlow.

Greensboro opened the game up early and took a 17-8 lead with 14:11 showing on the clock. The Cougars rallied and took a brief 18-17 lead before The Pride took control for good.
Over the course of the next eight minutes, Greensboro outscored Averett 24-4 to grab a commanding 42-22 advantage at the 4:11 mark. The Cougars narrowed the gap heading into the break but still went into the half trailing 48-34.

The Pride put the first six points of the second half on the board to push the margin to 54-34. Averett hung tough pulling back to within 65-54 before Greensboro put any doubts of a comeback to rest.

The Pride scored ten straight points, going ahead 74-54 with ten minutes left in the game. Greensboro would grow the lead to 25 points down the stretch and take home the 95-73 win.

Damian Dixon led a balanced offensive attack with a game high 22 points. Luqman Tijani contributed 17 points , Devonta Davis finished with 15, while Donald Anderson and Chakiris Moss added 14 apiece. Moss and Raheem Martin both grabbed seven rebounds apiece.

The Pride shot lights out for the game, connecting on 51.4% of their field goal shots and 42.9% of their three-point tries. Greensboro forced 26 total turnovers and committed only nine.

The Pride will return to the Mayo C. Harlow Court at Hanes Gym on January 30 against Barber-Scotia. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
