Official Press Release on Retirement of Johnny Roscoe as head football coach and Dean of Students at Northern Guilford High School

After five years of service to Northern Guilford High School and Guilford County Schools, Johnny Roscoe announced that he is retiring from his position as the
Dean of Students and Head Football Coach effective February 1, 2013.

As a staff member, Mr. Roscoe worked as the In-School Suspension Supervisor
and was instrumental in helping to implement a new In-School Suspension
Program that allowed NGHS to reduce the number of lost instructional days for students experiencing behavior difficulties by nearly 50% with very few repeat offenders. The program included the close monitoring of academic progress
and the execution of daily community service for these students.

As the Head Football Coach, he compiled an overall record of 65-6 over the
5 years of the programs existence including a 17-1 playoff record. His teams
have won three consecutive 3-AA State Championships with two victories over Shelby Crest and the latest victory over Charlotte Catholic. Coach Roscoe’s
teams were the 3-A Mid-State Conference Champions 3 out of the 4 years of
being in the conference including a 27-1 record. He was named the
3-A Conference Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

With all of his success on the field, the work that he did off the field mentoring
these young men and working to secure the players athletic scholarships was probably some of his best. We have listed the players who graduated from the Northern program and are now playing or have committed to play at the
