Amherst’s Toomey (Greensboro, NC/Bishop McGuinness) Tabbed NESCAC Player of the Week

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Aaron Toomey ’14 (Greensboro, NC/Bishop McGuinness) has been named the NESCAC men’s basketball Player of the Week after helping the Jeffs to a 3-0 stretch that included a pair of conference wins over Bates and Tufts.

Tying a career-high with 34 points, Toomey was nearly unstoppable at No. 18 Rhode Island College, hitting nine of his 12 field-goal attempts. Hitting on 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, he was 11-of-12 from the free throw line, while also pulling down eight rebounds.

Continuing his hot shooting against Bates, the point guard knocked down 8-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-7 three-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws, while adding five assists and four boards. Closing out the week with another solid outing, he poured in 27 points against Tufts, connecting on 6-of-11 from the field, while going a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line with seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.

Averaging 29.3 points in three games, Toomey shot an impressive 63.9 percent (23-for-36) from the field and 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from long distance. Hitting 93.9 percent (31-for-33) from the line, the junior remains on pace to break the program’s single-season free throw percentage mark he set last season.
