SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon women’s track and field freshman Megan Kirschling was named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Kirschling finished as the runner-up in the high jump at the Gene Anderson Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 2. The West Deptfort, N.J., native set a new school record and a conference-best mark at a cleared height of 5’10” (1.78m).
Kirschling has won two titles in the high jump this season. She broke the previous school record in her first collegiate meet at the Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 1, after clearing the bar at 5’8” (1.73m). She matched that same height at the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 19, helping Elon take first overall at the meet.
Kirschling will travel to the Tyson Indoor Invitational this Friday, Feb. 8, in Fayetteville, Ark., and compete as an individual against some of the top performers in the country. The rest of the Phoenix will travel back to Lynchburg, Va., to compete in the Liberty Quad on Friday.
