College Baseball Final – Guilford 11, Bluefield State 4

GREENSBORO, N.C.—The top six batters in the Guilford College batting order accounted for all the Quakers’ RBIs in Guilford’s 11-4 win over Bluefield State College Saturday.

D.J. Phillips led the way for the Quakers, going three-for-four with two RBIs. Philips hit a single up the middle to drive in a run in the fourth and then followed up the hit with another single up the middle, driving in another run.

Jordan Slate (Lexington, N.C./North Davidson) went two-for-four with two RBIs and a double. Slate got the Quakers on the board with a two-RBI single in the first inning.

Kent Peterson went two-for-four with an RBI triple in the sixth inning.

John Macon Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) added another RBI single in the sixth. Smith added three stolen bases, including a steal resulting in a throwing error that brought him across home plate.

Justin Pittman (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) and Corey Wallace added an RBI a piece.

Will James (1-1) picked up the win for the Quakers after a six-inning outing where he struck out eight batters. Justin Morrison (High Point, N.C./High Point Christian Academy) threw one inning while Tyler Tuttle threw the final two innings, striking out two.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Averett University in Danville, Va., the team’s first road game of 2013.
