College Women’s Swimming Results – Guilford Sits Ninth After Day One of ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s 200-yard freestyle relay and 400 medley relay posted season-best times and scored the Quakers’ 36 points Friday at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Women’s Swimming Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Washington and Lee University grabbed the lead in the nine-team meet following five events. The Generals had four winners Friday and scored 294 points. Randolph-Macon College (140) is second, followed by Emory & Henry College (132). The Quakers are ninth in the field.

In Friday’s first final, the Quakers’ 200 free relay turned in a time of one minute, 59.99 seconds, Guilford’s fastest since 2011. The team won the ‘B’ final and was made up of Sydney Hawkins, Julia Beveridge, Becca Dozier and Kendra Medina. Medina and Beveridge swam the first two legs on Guilford’s 400 medley relay, followed by Julia Sheehan and Hawkins. The unit touched in a season-low 4:55.48, another season best and the Quakers’ best time since 2010. Medina swam the opening leg in 1:10.59, which stands as the second-fastest 100 backstroke time in school history.

Earlier Friday, Beveridge placed 20th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:43.29, the Quakers’ third-best of the year. Medina was 22nd in the 500 freestyle in 6:19.57, which was also the team’s third-fastest of the season. Hawkins paced Guilford in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.29 seconds that placed 26th in the field and marked the Quakers’ third-fastest time of the year. The Quakers had eight students in the race and six swam the fastest times of their careers.

The three-day event resumes Saturday (2/9) at 10:00 a.m. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
