GC Men’s Tennis Downed by Chowan 7-2 in Season Opener

The Pride men’s tennis team suffered a 7-2 home setback to Division II Chowan on Sunday afternoon. The match took place at the Burlington Athletic Complex in Burlington, NC.

Greensboro trailed 2-1 after a strong doubles showing. The number three squad of ZachPassman and Ian Weiner defeated Scott Van Eck and Jaqwese Williams 8-6. The number one team of Kyle Gatti and Matt Moscatello nearly gave The Pride a 2-1 lead, falling 8-6 to Pedro Aiala and Danilo Galovic.

In singles play, Weiner earned his second win of the day, beating Williams 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) to give Greensboro its second win of the afternoon. Passman also played tough at number one before dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Aiala.

The Pride will be back at home on Friday against Huntington. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Grimsley High School.
