Richburg’s 37 Helps GC Women’s Basketball Knock Off N.C. Wesleyan 69-65

Bianca Richburg scored 37 points as The Pride women’s basketball team (12-10 overall, 8-8 USA South) snapped a two-game losing skid with a 69-65 road win over North Carolina Wesleyan (10-13 ovarall, 9-7 USA South) on Sunday.

Greensboro trailed 63-62 with 1:57 to go but finished the game out on a 7-2 run to earn the victory. Richburg scored eight of the team’s final ten points to help close out the game.

Richburg jump started the spurt with two free throws to put The Pride back on top with 48 ticks left. She added two more free throws with 16 seconds remaining before Stacy Hicks capped the scoring with a free throw with six seconds showing.

Greensboro never trailed in the first half, going up by as many as seven points until a late Bishop rally closed the gap to 28-26 at the break.

North Carolina Wesleyan used a quick start to the second half to go up by as many as seven points in the opening six minutes of the frame.

The Pride fought their way back and took over the lead on a Richburg jumper at the 4:46 mark. The Bishops would go back on top and lead until 2:11 when Richburg downed two free throws to give Greensboro a 62-61 lead.

Also hitting double digits in scoring was Chevena Pickard with 15. Jena Cabe led the team on the boards with ten rebounds, while Richburg narrowly missed a double-double with nine.

The Pride finished the day with a 33.9% shooting percentage from the floor. North Carolina Wesleyan held a slight 39-37 advantage on the boards and both teams committed 19 turnovers for the game.

Greensboro will be back at home on Saturday against Maryville. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on the Mayo C. Harlow Court at Hanes Gym.
