‘Big’ Jay Thompson former Dudley HS and University of South Carolina football player passes at age 45

We lost ‘Big’ Jay Thompson this week, as the former Dudley Panther and University of South Carolina Gamecock football player passed away at age 45….’Big’ Jay played for Dudley back in the day and then later attended and played college football for USC….’Big’ Jay was a big wrestling fan and spent many a night watching the Pay-per-Views and live shows with good friends Carl Smith, Bruce Mitchell and ‘Undercover’ John Hitchcock….’Big’ Jay spent several years on the team at Harris Teeter and now he has hit the big wrestling ring and football field in the sky….RIP ‘Big’ Jay Thompson, a softspoken man, that cared about his family and friends…..We will see you again one day ‘Big’ Jay…..

GREENSBORO – Jasper “Jay” A. Thompson passed on February 9, 2013 after a brief illness. Jay was born October 2, 1967 in Greensboro, NC to Jasper A. Thompson, Sr. and the late Pearline O. Thompson.

Jay was educated in the Greensboro City School System graduating from James B. Dudley High School in 1985. After graduating he furthered his education by attending the University of South Carolina, Elon College and Guilford College. Jay was employed in the insurance business.

He is survived by his father Jasper A. Thompson, Sr., brother Percy (Theresa), sisters Trecia Thompson of Greensboro and Antonia Greene (Thomas) of Richmond, VA. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a niece Asia, and nephews Nicholas, JR (Alissha) of Greensboro, and Robert James Taylor of Goldsboro as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Going Home Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 812 Duke Street.
