SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon women’s track and field freshman Sydney Griffin was named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Griffin broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles last Friday, Feb. 15, at the Virginia Tech Challenge. The Marietta, Ga., native clocked a time of 8.62 and finished fourth overall in the event. That performance also placed her first on the Southern Conference’s list in the event.
Griffin also performed well in the 200-meter run at Virginia Tech, running a season-best time of 25.05 and finishing in the top five. That performance places her second all-time at Elon.
Griffin and the Phoenix return to competition this weekend, Feb. 23-24, for the 2013 SoCon Indoor Championships in Winston Salem, N.C. The meet will be held at the JDL Fast Track Complex.
