Ryley Beaumont scored the go-ahead basket on a backdoor cut with 8.2 seconds left on the clock to put Elon ahead by one. Samford’s Raijon Kelly’s potential game-winner rimmed out as time expired, giving Elon its first ever win at Samford. Beaumont ended the night with 14 points and a career-high 14 boards.

BEAUMONT HONORED: Ryley Beaumont was tabbed the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The Belton, S.C., native registered four blocks to pass Eric Hairston for first on Elon’s all-time chart. Troutman now has 145 blocks in his career. He leads the Southern Conference with 55 (2.2 per game) blocks this season, which ties him with Joel Sargent for the most in a single season in school history.

ROAD TO ASHEVILLE: The 2013 Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled for March 8-11, 2013, at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C. Elon has locked up at the very least the No. 2 seed in the tournament by clinching the North Division title. Davidson (15-1 in the SoCon) would earn the No. 1 overall seed if the tournament started today.
