College Women’s Tennis Finals – Hollins 5, Guilford 4 / Randolph-Macon 5, Guilford 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford dropped 5-4 decisions to Old Dominion Athletic Conference-foes Randolph-Macon College and Hollins University on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The first took place at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center due to weather and did not conclude until 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. The Yellow Jackets (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) won all but two singles matches. The Quakers’ Natalie Sutton went 2-0, taking second singles 6-4, 6-1 and second doubles with Kim Kleimeier, 8-5. Dominique Crespo also won both, defeating her fifth singles opponent Violet Hahn, 6-3, 6-1 and paired with Allison Hewitt to take their third doubles match, 8-4.

Guilford (0-3, 0-3 ODAC) also narrowly lost the second match to Hollins (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) on the road. The Quakers’ Allie Guy, Crespo and Hewitt took the bottom three doubles matches, respectively. Crespo and Hewitt represented the lone Quakers’ double win at third doubles, 8-4.

The Quakers next play home against cross-town rival Greensboro College Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the McMichael Centennial Class Courts.
