College Golf Results – Guilford Wins Rain-Shortened Pine Needles Intercollegiate

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Guilford College captured its second men’s golf tournament title of the season Tuesday with a rain-shortened victory at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate. The Quakers shot 291 in Monday’s opening round and finished five strokes of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Washington and Lee University in the 10-team field.

Tuesday’s second round was cancelled due to heavy rain.

Washington and Lee’s Teddy Corcoran earned medalist honors with a two-under-par 69 at the 7,015-yard Pine Needles Lodge and Club layout. Tommy Raddin of Cape Fear Community College was second with a one-under 70, followed by Guilford sophomore Nick Shedd (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette), who shot an even-par 71.

The Quakers’ four scorers all finished among the top-12 individuals in the 50-man field. Defending NCAA Division III Player of the Year Noah Ratner notched his third top-10 finish of the season by shooting a one-over 72 that shared fourth place with teammate Travis Tolbert. Quakers’ sophomore Drew Thompson finished 12th with a 76.

Coach Corey Maggard’s Quakers, ranked ninth in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll, compete Mar. 4-5 at the Davidson Spring Invitational.
