HPU Women’s Golf Finishes 20th at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team shot a combined 325 in the third and final day of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic and finished in 20th place out of 32 teams with three-day score of 953. Freshman Tan Cheeranont was HPU’s top scorer on the day with a four-over 76.

Cheeranont finished the tournament in a tie for 44th place with a 54-hole score of 233 (79-78-76). The freshman put up a lower score in each successive round. Junior Grier Bennett carded an 83 on Tuesday and finished the competition in a tie for 87th with a three-day score of 240 (77-80-83). Freshman Casey Ward shot an 87 in the final round and tied Bennett in 87th with a total score of 240 (77-76-87).

Senior Audra McShane shot an 80 in the final round and finished in a tie for 114th with a score of 246 (84-82-80). Fellow senior Jessica Neese carded an 86 and finished in a tie 121st with a three-day total of 247 (83-78-86).

Big South member Campbell claimed the team title with a three day score of 899. The Camels shot 299 in the third round to pass the College of Charleston which finished in second with a three-day score of 902. Troy finished in third with a score of 906 while Richmond (914) and UNC Greensboro (917) rounded out the top five.

The College of Charleston’s Julia Neumann won the individual medal with a 54-hole score of 219. Neumann finished one-stroke ahead of Central Arkansas’ Julia Roth who shot 220 in the three-round tournament.

High Point returns to action on March 17 when the team will travel to Williamsburg, Va., to take part in the C7F Bank Invitational. The three-day tournament will be held at the Kingsmill Resort.
