Elon’s Silverman Tabbed SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon University men’s tennis junior Cameron Silverman has been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 11-17. Silverman went 6-0 in singles and doubles play last week as the Phoenix earned conference wins over Davidson (6-1), Wofford (6-1) and Furman (7-0). It is the second time this season Silverman has won the weekly award after earning the nod March 5.

Silverman was dominant at the No. 1 position last week as he earned straight-set victories in all three matches. He began the week with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Davidson’s Nicky Kunz before downing Wofford’s Rob Galloway 6-0, 6-2. Ranked No. 38 in the nation in singles play, Silverman closed the week with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Furman’s Andrew Mellow.

Teamed with Stefan Fortmann, Elon’s top tandem went 3-0. Silverman and Fortmann held off Davidson’s Joe Schafer and Ethan Kallick, 8-6, before topping Wofford’s Rob Galloway and Walker Heffron, 8-4. Elon’s No. 1 doubles team then closed the week with an 8-6 win over Furman’s Mellow and Joel Cook.

Silverman has now won seven of his last eight singles matches and is now 8-4 on the year, while he and Fortmann are now 7-3 at No. 1 doubles this spring.

Elon (8-4, 4-1 SoCon) returns to action Wednesday when the Phoenix hosts Dartmouth.
