College Baseball Final – Guilford 6, Roanoke 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Herc Ingles had three hits in Guilford’s 6-1 baseball win over visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Roanoke College, 6-1.

The Quakers’ (11-13, 4-7 ODAC) Kent Peterson had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to plate Ingles, putting Guilford ahead 1-0. The Maroons (9-15, 2-7 ODAC) earned their single run after the Quakers’ Dylan Clark walked a batter with the bases loaded. Guilford continued to expand its lead, scoring an unanswered three runs in the third and another two in the eighth.

Chad Wagoner (1-0) earned his first win on the mound for the Quakers after 5.2 scoreless innings. He only allowed six hits in the victory. Jordan Slate was 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kent Peterson had a team-high two RBI with one hit. John Macon Smith added two hits. Danny Ditota went 2-for-4. Justin Morrison and Tyler Tuttle each pitched a scoreless inning.

Boone Hagy and Brian Kluge shared team-high hits honors (2) for the Maroons. Kluge had the team’s lone RBI. Mark Wimmer (2-2) claimed the loss on the mound for Roanoke. He allowed four earned runs in four innings pitched. Tyler Grouten pitched two scoreless innings before Cameron Holshouser took over, allowing two earned runs in two innings.

The Quakers return home after eight road games for a double header beginning at noon against Southern Virginia University on Saturday, April 13 at McBane Field. The game represents Senior Day for the team’s eight seniors.
