The Pride men’s tennis team won its second straight decision and fourth of its past five in an 8-1 win over LaGrange, while the women fell at home to the Panthers 8-1. The men are now 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the USA South, while the women drop to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The men rolled through doubles play on Friday with a perfect 3-0 mark. Zach Passman and Kyle Gatti won at number one 8-2, Ian Weiner and Matthew Troy came away victorious 8-6 at two, with Brett Graeser and Keneau Fletcher capping the sweep with an 8-4 win at three.
Greensboro continued to roll in singles, winning at positions one through five to clinch the match. Passman came out on top 6-1, 6-0 at one, Gatti breezed 6-3, 6-2 at two, Graeser won 6-4, 6-1 at three, Troy battled for a 7-6 (1), 6-4 win at four and Matt Moscatello closed out the wins with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at five. Chris Espenoza nearly completed the 9-0 sweep, but dropped a hard fought match in the number six spot.
Meredith Kelly earned the lone win for The Pride on the women’s side, winning 6-3, 6-3 in the one singles position. Kelly and Elizabeth Adair came up short in a hotly contested doubles match at one 8-5, and Paige Brown was outlasted in the two singles spot 7-6 (7), 6-0.
Both teams will be back at home on Saturday against Piedmont. The matches will begin at 10 a.m. at Hester Park. The women will recognize seniors Meredith Kelly and Elizabeth Adair prior to the start.
