The GTCC Titans baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Louisburg College on Friday afternoon. Game 1 saw the Titans rally by the Hurricanes in extra innings by the score of 5-4. In Game 2, a Titan rally feel just short as Louisburg survived by the score of 7-6.
A two-out RBI single by Titan third baseman Brandon Burkes knot the score at 4 in the bottom of the sixth inning in Game 1. The Titans then took advantage of 3 Louisburg errors in the bottom of the 8th inning to score the winning run. Garrett Hickman got the win for the Titans by scattering 9 hits over 8 innings pitched and striking out 6. Brandon Burkes led the Titan offense with 2 hits for the game.
In Game 2, Louisburg raced to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. The Hurricanes pushed their lead to 7-2 in the 3rd inning. The Titans rallied for 2 runs in the 5th and 6th innings, but couldn’t get any closer and fell to Louisburg by the score of 7-6. Tiger Miller, Cody Adkins, and Brandon Burkes all had 2 hits apiece, and Carlos Alegria added 3 hits to pace the Titan hitting attack. Tommy Marshall tossed 5 strong innings of scoreless relief for the Titans as well.
The two teams will square of again tomorrow in doubleheader action starting at 1:00. Games will be played at Ragsdale High School.
