GTCC Titans rally to salvage split with Louisburg:Dillon Barker(SEG) and Ty Powell(SEG) come up big for Barrow’s boys/men

The GTCC Titans baseball team rallied from a late 2-run deficit to get by visiting Louisburg College in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Saturday. In Game 1, the Titans failed to capitalize on run-scoring opportunities early in the game and it cost them as Louisburg won by the score of 5-2.

Game 1 saw the Titans pound out 9 hits, but they could only muster 2 runs. Edwin Soto was 2-4 with a solo home run, but there was not much more clutch hitting otherwise for the Titans as the Hurricanes prevailed by the score of 5-2. Darren Lauer pitched a solid 4+ innings for the Titans but was saddled with the loss.

Louisburg raced to an early 3-0 lead in Game 2 before the Titans bats came to life. Led by a Cody Adkins 2-run homer, the Titans plated 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to knot the score at 3. An RBI groundout by TJ Wharton in the bottom of the 5th inning gave the Titans a 4-3 lead. Louisburg struck back in the top of the sixth inning with a 2-run home run to regain the lead 5-4. Then, with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, Titan 1st baseman Dillon Barker(Southeast Guilford High School) crushed a 3-run home run to give the Titans a 7-5 lead. Louisburg rallied in the top of the 7th inning with a base hit and a Titan error and scoring a run of their own. However, Titan closer Ty Powell(Southeast Guilford HigH School) stranded the potential tying run at 3rd base to secure his school record 4th save of the year and preserve the Titan win by the score of 7-6.

The Titans run their record to 14-15 overall and 8-8 in Region X play. They will return to action this weekend as they travel to Greenville, NC to battle Pitt Community College in a big 4-game series.
