HPU’s Carroll Named Big South Player of the Week in Women’s Lacrosse

Junior midfielder Mackenzie Carroll of the High Point University women’s lacrosse team has been named Big South Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Carroll scored four goals with two assists in HPU’s win over Longwood last Wednesday.

Carroll scored HPU’s first, third and fifth goals of the game as the Panthers led the whole way against Longwood. She also had one ground ball and one caused turnover. It was HPU’s first Big South Conference game ever, as this is the first season the league has sponsored women’s lacrosse.

It was Carroll’s sixth multi-goal game and eighth multi-point game of the season. She leads the Panthers in goals (20), assists (11) and points (31) this season. Her 20 goals have come on 36 shots, a shooting percentage of 55.6.

Carroll totaled scoring lines of 30-25-55 as a freshman in 2011 and 33-38-71 in 2012, when she was named National Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year.

The Panthers play three Big South games this week, hosting Coastal Carolina on Monday at 3 p.m., Winthrop on Friday at 6 p.m. and Liberty on Sunday at 1 p.m.
