MORGANTON, N.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team shot 313 on Tuesday to finish sixth with a combined score of 633 at the Mimosa Hill Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C. The Panthers trimmed seven shots off their first-round score to move up two spots in the standings.

Host and day-one lead Appalachian State shot the best combined round of the day with a 304 to pull away in the team standings. The Mountaineers finished in first with a two-day total of 610. Winthrop finished in second with a score of 620 while Jacksonville State and Wofford tied for third with matching scores of 629. Western Carolina finished in fifth with a total score of 630.
Winthrop’s Meagan Wallace shot a one-under 71 on Tuesday to move up from fifth and claim the individual medal with a two-day total of 146 (75-71). Yue Xu of Appalachian State finished second with a score of 148 (73-75) and teammate Haley Zagoria finished third with a 36-hole score of 149 (74-75).
The Panthers are off next week before heading to Ninety-Six, S.C., for the Big South Championship beginning on April 14. The three-day event will be held at the Patriot Golf Club. Last season, High Point finished eighth at the conference championship with a score of 956.
