College Baseball Final – Ferrum 12, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Ferrum College’s Chris Walker (3-6) threw a complete-game five-hitter to claim the 12-1 nonconference win over visiting Guilford College Wednesday.

Guilford (13-16) threw eight different pitchers, none throwing more than two innings. Will Henschel (0-1) allowed two earned runs on five hits in less than one inning. Ferrum (12-20) was out to a 7-0 lead after two innings. The Quakers’ bats stayed cold throughout the game, the only run coming from Herc Ingels’ RBI single in the top of the eighth.

Ferrum’s Teddy Turner had three hits and four RBI. Trey Laney was 3-for-4 and drove in two. Taryn Hayden also tallied two hits. 10 different Panthers had one or more hits and seven players had one or more RBI.

Guilford’s Nathan Fulbright had a team-high two hits. Ingels, Guy Woodliff and Jacob Roberts had one hit apiece. Tyler Hunt’s two scoreless innings marked the best effort by a Guilford pitcher. Will Henschel (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Quakers.

Guilford visits Old Dominion Athletic Conference-foe Eastern Mennonite University Saturday, Apr. 6 for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon.
