GC Women’s Lacrosse Comes up Short in Key Match-up With Ferrum

With the second seed and first round bye in the upcoming USA South tournament on the line, the Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team (7-9 overall, 6-1 USA South) came up short to Ferrum (13-3 overall, 7-1 USA South) at home 9-6 on Wednesday.

The Panthers responded to an early Pride goal by Kirstin Norris to put five unanswered scores on the board. The run would prove crucial, as Greensboro would climb no closer then two goals for the remainder of the way.

Goals by Nadya Fedun and Brittany Ziobro helped The Pride cut the gap to 7-4 at the break. Ferrum got the first score in the second half, before Greensboro rallied with goals by Micaela Sandoval and Ziobro to pull to within 8-6 with 21:02 left.

A 12-minute scoreless drought for both teams ended with a key man-down Panther goal with 9:16 to go in the game. Turnovers would plague The Pride down the stretch, as Greensboro failed to pull off a late comeback.

Greensboro was able to hang around despite being outshot 27-13, winning only three of 14 draw controls and committing 23 turnovers.

Fedun and Ziobro tied for a team high two goals, and contributed an assist apiece, to go along with one by Sandoval. Kirstin Norris, Alexa Besch, Kendra Allbritton and Sandoval each caused two Panther turnovers. Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss in net following a 13 save performance.

The Pride will host a first round USA South tournament game on Saturday on Pride. Check the schedule for a confirmed opponent and start time.
