Record Setting Day For Elon Track and Field at Duke, Liberty

DURHAM, N.C. – Caroline McCaslin established a new school-record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday, April 6, as the Elon track and field team completed competition at the Duke Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium. McCaslin rank a time of 10:34.87 in the race, breaking the previous program mark by nearly 20 seconds.

McCaslin finished in the top-five of the race for Elon and was one of three Phoenix harriers in the top-10 in the event. Tereza Novotna (10:59.29) crossed the line in seventh with a new personal-record while Emily Tryon was ninth with a time of 11:02.53.

“Caroline ran an incredible race today,” said Phoenix head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach Christine Engel. “She was poised and ran so tough in a very high level and competitive field. She’s proved in just her second steeple race that she has become one of the breakout performers this year in the event.”

The Phoenix overall set two new school records at the two-day Duke Invitational while others established a number of new personal-records.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Megan Kirschling cleared the bar at 5’7.25” (1.71m) in the high jump to set a school-record on Saturday, April 6, as a few members of the Elon track and field team raced at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. Kirschling broke her own school-record in the event and claimed the title today at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

“The meet went well today,” said Phoenix head track and field coach Mark Elliston. “Megan did really well to pull out the win in the high jump today. We had a good showing this afternoon, but we know we still have a lot of work to do.”

Veronica Luedke ran the 400-meter hurdles at Liberty and was third overall with a time of 1:03.44. Samantha Brown also finished in the top-10 in the event with a time of 1:07.40.

Haley Laird also joined Kirschling in the top-five in the high jump with a cleared height of 5’1.25” (1.56m). Marie Borowycz was third in the long jump with a mark of 17’0.25” (5.20m).

Charlise Morgan was fourth in the shot put with a heave of 43’7” (13.28m).

Elon returns to competition next Saturday, April 13, at the Joe Hilton Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
