GC Softball Places Four on USA South All-Conference Team

Greensboro College softball players Sarah Connolly, Jackie Nicholson, Chelsea Brewer, Sarah Tompkins and Rae Hall earned USA South honors on Wednesday. Connolly, Nicholson and Brewer were named to the Second Team, while Tompkins received Third Team recognition. Rae Hall represented The Pride on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Connolly, a freshman from Mount Airy, NC, started all 33 games and ranked fifth in the conference in batting average at .406. She was third in the USA South in doubles with 11 and finished highly in the rankings in RBI with 26. In the field, she recorded 61 putouts and had a .946 fielding percentgage.

Nicholson, a sophomore from Snow Camp, NC, also started all 33 games in a utility role for Greensboro. She finished the season in the top 16 of the conference in batting average (.344), RBI (27) and doubles (8). During the year, Nicholson pitched, patroled the outfield, and served as the team’s designated player. In the circle, she made three total appearances for 12.0 innings, recording one save and 11 strikeouts.

Brewer, a freshman from Bennett, NC, ended the regular season third on the team and 12th in the USA South in batting average at .376. She appeared in 31 games, starting 30 in her debut season and added 20 runs, five doubles and 11 RBI. Playing the outfield, Brewer posted a .905 fielding percentage.

Tompkins, a freshman from Wilmington, NC, earned Third Team USA South recognition as a catcher after leading the conference in batting average at .447. Starting 32 games, she contributed 23 RBI, four home runs and nine doubles. Tompkins ranked fifth in the USA South in on base percentage with a mark a .495. Behind the plate, she posted a fielding percentage of .983 with 208 put outs.

Rae Hall, a freshman from Roanoke, VA, appeared in 32 games with 31 starts. She tied for the team lead in home runs with four, had 20 RBI and eight runs scored.
