Elon’s Luedke Named SoCon Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Veronica Luedke of the Elon women’s track and field team was named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, April 17. This is the first weekly honor for Luedke and the second consecutive week that a Phoenix has been selected for the accolade by the league’s track and field coaches.

Luedke ran a personal-best 1:01.55 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Joe Hilton Invitational last Saturday, April 13, in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native finished second overall in the event and clocked in the second-fastest time on the program’s all-time performance list. Luedke’s time is also the second-best mark in the conference this season.

This is the fourth time that a member of the squad has been selected for the league’s weekly award during the track and field season. Luedke joins Megan Kirschling, Sydney Griffin and last week’s winner, Caroline McCaslin, as the latest athlete to earn the SoCon honor.

Elon will prepare for this weekend’s meet, the 2013 SoCon Outdoor Championships, at Eagle Field in Statesboro, Ga.
