HPU Men’s Golf Eighth After Day One of Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team sits in a tie for eighth place after it shot a combined 313 in the first round of play at the Big South Championship on Sunday at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. Sophomore Charles Valluzzo was HPU’s low scorer for the day with a 76.

“I am disappointed with our scores for the day,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “We hit the ball through the win well when it picked up but didn’t adjust to the faster greens. The good news is that two more rounds remain and we can get our putting confidence back tomorrow.”

Valluzzo’s 76 puts him in a tie for 15th after round one. Senior Chase Wilson site three strokes back with a 79. He is tied with teammates McKay Tye and Tommy Dillon for 28th in the tournament.

Senior Brian Sullivan rounded out HPU’s scores with an 83 to sit tied for 45th overall.

Liberty is the leader after day one with a team score of 294. Max McKay of the Flames is the individual leader after he carded a 70 on Sunday.

HPU will tee off at 8:50 tomorrow along with Longwood.
