Game Report on Eastern Guilford at Western Alamance HS baseball from Friday night

The 3rd round would be a Mid State 3A conference matchup. The Wildcats would square off against fellow Mid State foe Western Alamance Warriors. This would be the 4th meeting between the two. Caleb Robinson would start on the bump for the Wildcats and Michael Olenoski would toe it up for the Warriors. Both guys pitched really well.

The Wildcats would not score in the top of the 1st. The Warriors score 1 run in the bottom on a 2 out single from Blake Deatherage followed by a wild pitch moving him to 2nd base. Garrett Hodge would drive him home on a single. 1-0 Western Alamance after 1.

Olenoski would give up 2 walks but would strikeout the next 3 to get out of the inning. Robinson would hit the leadoff batter and then Jay Carter would get on with an error. Robinson would get out of trouble with no damage. 1-0 Western Alamance after 2.

Jacob Finerty would reach on an error to start the inning then steal 2nd. He would move to 3rd on a passed ball and then score on a ground ball to 2nd by Andrew Robinson. Western Alamance would answer in the bottom half with a run of their own. Michael Olenoski would double then score when Blake Deatherage would reach on a throwing error. 2-1 Western Alamance after 3.

Eastern would put up 2 more in the 4th. Marque Johnson would single. Then Ben Horne would move him to 3rd on a single of his own. Jordan Rohrer would bring home Johnson on a single. Jacob Finerty would single home Ben Horne for the 2nd run of the inning. Caleb Robinson would get the Warriors in order in the 4th. 3-2 Wildcats after 4.

Eastern wouldn’t score in the 5th. Western would get a leadoff walk from Brock Deatherage but that would be it as C Robinson would get the next 3 batter. 3-2 Eastern after 5.

Eastern would go in order in the 6th. Western would tie the game in the bottom of the 6th. Sam Foster would reach on an error then Trey Pierce would also reach on an error moving Foster to 3rd. Jay Carter would then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the run. 3-3 after 6th.

Eastern would get another single from Rohrer to lead off the 7th. Jacob Finerty would sacrifice him to 2nd. Chandler Gray would get a single to put runners on the corner with 1 out. Andrew Robinson would get an RBI double. Western would then bring in Justin Garber to finish the inning. Caleb Robinson would get an intentional walk to load the bases bringing up Luke Robinson. L. Robinson would deliver with an RBI single. Garber would get the next 2 batters. Caleb Robinson would come out to finish the game for the Wildcats. C. Robinson would K the first batter then Blake Deatherage would reach on another error. Robinson would then get another K for the second out. Kevin Burns would get a blooper to shallow center and Ben Horne would get there but couldn’t bring it down but as it bounced out of his glove Marque Johnson would be there to dive and catch it for the final out of the game. 5-3 Eastern Guilford victory.
