NCHSAA State 2-A Boy’s Dual Team Tennis Championship

SHELBY FINISHES UNBEATEN, DOWNS CARRBORO 5-3

GREENSBORO—Shelby’s Golden Lions completed a perfect 21-0 season en route to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s dual team tennis championship on Saturday, beating Carrboro 5-3 in action at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

The match had originally been scheduled for the Burlington Tennis Center outdoors but was moved due to rain.

Shelby, the defending champ, won four of the six singles and then took first and third doubles to earn the championship. Marshall Parker, who won the state singles championship last weekend, won at the number-one singles and teamed with Miles Poage to take the number-one doubles. It was Shelby’s fifth NCHSAA men’s dual team tennis title in five appearances in the championship.

Carrboro, which got singles wins from Jacob Zinn and Paul Flournoy in the fifth and sixth positions and then saw those two team to win the third doubles, ended the season with a 20-2 record.
