KIRKPATRICK LEADS CONLEY TO GAME TWO VICTORY OVER WEDDINGTON

GREENSBORO – Davis Kirkpatrick was the winning pitcher and also rapped out a pair of hits to lead Greenville D.H Conley to a tough 7-6 decision over Weddington on Saturday in game two of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A baseball championship series at NewBridge Bank Park.

Conley jumped in front 4-0 in the first inning and led 6-0 at one point before the Bulldogs fought back, getting three in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Weddington battled to the end, loading the bases in the seventh and then getting a double by Alex Bostic that plated two. But the Vikings gunned down Daniel Calabretta trying to score from first on Bostic’s bases-loaded double, center fielder Tyler Garrett to shortstop Thompason Brown to catcher Nick Whedbee.

Ryan Maness and Michael Fuller had three hits apiece for Conley, while Calabretta, Bostic and Jeff Welch each had two hits for Weddington.
