The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2012 University Division All-State Volleyball Teams on Thursday. Fourteen players representing eight different North Carolina Universities were named to the 2012 NCCSIA University Division All-State Teams.
High Point University led the way with four individuals on the first-team. North Carolina Central, UNC Greensboro and Charlotte all placed one representative on the first-team.
NCCU freshman Christine Anthony was the leading vote getter among outside hitters. Anthony averaged 3.86 kills and 2.42 digs per set on her way to being named the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year. Karrian Chambers of UNC Greensboro was also named first-team All-State as an outside hitter. She led UNCG with 400 kills and 3.64 kills per set while ending up second in aces (16) and third in total digs (287) and digs per set (2.61)
Amanda Videmsek of Charlotte and Jamie McDonald of High Point were named first-team middle blockers. Videmsek averaged 3.23 kills and .65 blocks per set to lead the 49ers. McDonald was named second-team All-Big South and set the HPU single season records with 94 block assists and 1.01 blocks per set.
Senior Courtney Johnk represented High Point as the first-team right side attacker. She was named first-team All-Big South and was second in the league with 3.35 kills per set.
The first-team setter and libero both hail from High Point. Redshirt-sophomore Maddie Simpson dished out 9.88 assists per set and posted 10 double-doubles to earn a spot on the first team. Freshman Annemarie Chin was picked as the top libero after coming up with 3.68 digs per set in her rookie campaign. She was named second-team All-Big South and to the All-Freshmen team.
The NCCSIA All-State second team is comprised of Elon’s Kris Harris and Ana Nicksic, Charlotte’s Bianca Rouse, High Point’s Kristin Heldt, Gardner-Webb’s Tyler Cockrell, East Carolina’s Nicole Willis and Appalachian State’s Courtney Rhein.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
