European Tour Stars Join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three major stars on the European Tour, Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer and Paul Casey, have joined the Wyndham Championship field, it was announced today. The 74th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 12-18, 2013.

These players join a field that also includes commitments from defending champion Sergio Garcia, reigning FedExCup champion and 2007 Wyndham winner Brandt Snedeker, 2011 Wyndham winner and 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, Wyndham winners Davis Love III and Carl Pettersson as well as former major winners Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover and Stewart Cink.

Harrington is a three-time major championship winner with Open Championship wins in 2007 and ’08 and a PGA Championship title 2008. A native and resident of Ireland, he is a five-time PGA TOUR winner and a 16-time international winner. He finished tied for 47th in the 2011 Wyndham, his only other appearance here. He is currently 75th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 118th in the FedExCup point standings.

Kaymer, who was No. 1 in the world only two years ago, is 36th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 126th in the current FedExCup point standings. He has two PGA TOUR wins including the 2010 PGA Championship and 10 international wins. A native and resident of Germany, Kaymer is making his first Wyndham Championship appearance.

Casey, ranked third in the world just two years ago, is returning to form following a series of injuries, and he took a major step on June 30 when he won the Irish Open. It was his first win since 2011, and it came against a world-class field. He is now up to 101st in the Official World Golf Rankings after dropping as low as 169th. Casey is making his fifth Wyndham Championship appearance. He is a native of England but lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“We always say our field really starts to take shape after the Open Championship, and that is definitely happening this year,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “This group of European Tour players shows that we are going to have another excellent field at the Wyndham. I am really starting to get excited about the field we are assembling for this year’s tournament. It’s going to be really, really good.”

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR.
