Former Virginia and Alabama QB Phillip Sims now at WSSU

from Chip Patterson at www.cbssports.com:

Phillip Sims intends to enroll at Winston-Salem State, but will not be eligible until 2014.

Phillip Sims, at one time a starting quarterback for Virginia and backup for Alabama’s AJ McCarron, intends to finish his college football career at Division II Winston-Salem State.

Sims was declared academically ineligible to play for Virginia in 2013, and decided to transfer for the second time in eighteen months. According to Winston-Salem State coach Cornell Maynor, Sims will not be eligible for the Rams in 2013.

“He’s not eligible for this year,” Maynor told the Winston-Salem Journal. “But when you can get a big-time quarterback such as Phillip, it really does a lot for your program as we look ahead. He’s a heck of an athlete and he will obviously help us.”
