High Point University Athletic Training Announces Three Additions for 2013-14

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University Director of Athletic Training Matt Schooler announced the addition of three new members to the Athletic Training staff on Monday. Bethany Hansberger, Abbey Russell and Chip Wintringham have all joined the Panther staff for 2013-14.

Hansberger will work primarily with women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse, Russell will work primarily with volleyball and women’s basketball and Wintringham will work primarily with the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams.
“We are thrilled that Bethany, Abbey and Chip have joined the athletic training team here at High Point University,” Schooler said. “All three have a strong educational background and a great work ethic as healthcare professionals. I am excited about the group of athletic trainers we will have working with our student-athletes this coming year.”

Hansberger earned her master’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia. While at Virginia, Hansberger worked as an Athletic Training Graduate Assistant at VMI where she covered the women’s soccer and men’s lacrosse teams. She designed rehabilitation programs for athletes and non-athletic cadets and performed on-field and sideline assessments of injuries, as well as injury prevention. Hansberger earned her undergraduate degree from Bridgewater College.

Russell graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a master’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine. Russell worked as an Athletic Training Graduate Assistant at UNC Greensboro, covering the softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country and cheerleading and dance teams. She designed rehabilitation programs for athletes and performed on-field and sideline assessments of injuries, as well as injury prevention. Russell earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Akron where she worked as a Student Athletic Trainer with the women’s basketball, men’s soccer, swimming and diving and track and field teams.

Wintringham earned his master’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia. He worked as an Athletic Training Graduate Assistant with the men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track and field teams at UVA, designing rehabilitation programs for athletes and performing on-field and sideline assessments of injuries, as well as injury prevention. Wintringham earned her undergraduate degree from Emory & Henry. He worked with various teams as a student Athletic Trainer including a semester long rotation with the Washington College High School Athletic Programs. Wintringham also competed as a member of the Emory & Henry men’s tennis team.

Hansberger, Russell and Wintringham are all Certified Athletic Trainers and members of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
