Wake Forest Alumnus Bill Haas Joins Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas has joined the field for next week’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 74th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 12-18, 2013.

Haas joins a field that also includes defending champion Sergio Garcia, reigning FedExCup champion and 2007 Wyndham winner Brandt Snedeker, 2011 Wyndham winner and 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, Wyndham winners Davis Love III, Carl Pettersson and K.J. Choi as well as major winners Vijay Singh, Zach Johnson, David Toms, Lucas Glover, Stewart Cink, Mike Weir, Trevor Immelman and Ben Curtis, Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama and European stars Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer, Nicolas Colsaerts and Paul Casey.

Haas is currently sixth in the FedExCup point standings and 24th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He won the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club near Washington, D.C. earlier this year and is the 2011 FedExCup Champion. Haas is currently sixth in the Presidents Cup point standings and has positioned himself to claim one of 10 automatic-qualifier positions when the team is announced following the Deutsche Bank Championship on Sept. 2. Haas will be making his eighth-consecutive Wyndham appearance and his ninth overall. He finished tied for seventh last year, his best-career Wyndham finish. He was the 2001 ACC rookie of the year and a four-time All-ACC selection at Wake Forest. The Greenville, S.C. native lives in Charlotte.

“Bill is having another outstanding year, and it’s always big news for us when we are able to have a major-league player like Bill Haas in our field,” Wyndham Championship tournament director Mark Brazil said. “In 2002, when Bill was still an amateur playing golf at Wake Forest, he made his PGA TOUR debut when we gave him his first sponsor’s exemption, and he’s been here just about every year since then. He’s had an excellent season and is in great position for another strong FedExCup playoff run.”

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR.
