HPU Women’s Soccer: Becca Hemby Named A Lowes Senior CLASS Award Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – High Point University women’s soccer senior midfielder Becca Hemby has been named as one of the nation’s 30 candidates for the Lowes Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Hemby was named first-team All-Big South in 2012 after leading the Panthers with 11 goals and 26 points. The midfielder tied the HPU Div. I single-season record for goals scored and notched three game winners. She finished the season second in the Big South in goals scored and tied for third in the conference in total points. Hemby has been a two-year captain and two-year team MVP.

In the classroom, Hemby currently sports a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Mathematical Economics. She was named a second-team Capital One Academic All-American in 2012 and is a three-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll selection and Millis Scholar-Athlete.

Hemby has been very involved in the High Point community during her time at HPU. She has volunteered at the High Point City Easter Egg Hunt and at several local youth ministries. She has taken part in a youth fitness program called GoFar at a local elementary school and has also tutored and read to local youths in the High Point community.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete experience and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award® winner during the 2012 NCAA College World Series, which will be held June 15-26 in Omaha.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, Division I head coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
