HPU Women’s Soccer Game Against Georgia Southern Cancelled

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s soccer game against Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The game was suspended due to lightning in the 48th minute.

High Point trailed 1-0 when the game was suspended despite controlling the run of play through much of the first half. HPU created several dangerous scoring chances early in the game when both senior Becca Hemby and freshman Kai-Lin Hernandez had shots sail just high of the crossbar and freshman Meghan Beidleman pushed a shot wide of the left post.

The Eagles scored a goal against the run of play in the 35th minute on a counter attack off an HPU free kick to take a 1-0 lead. Georgia Southern’s Abria Allen gained control of the ball just outside the GSU penalty area and dribbled down the left side before dropping a pass off to a trailing Jennifer Wittick for the finish.

High Point will next host inter-Triad rival UNC Greensboro on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
