College Women’s Soccer Final – Greensboro 1, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Mary Randolph scored the game-winning goal with 4:55 left in regulation of Greensboro College’s 1-0 soccer win at Guilford College Thursday night.

The game started following a 25-minute lightning delay and remained scoreless until the final five minutes. Randolph took a corner kick that bounced around the box before squirting out away from the goal. After taking the corner, she came around, collected the loose ball from 32 yards straightaway from the goal and blasted a shot just under the crossbar and over Quakers’ goalie Abby Gove.

Guilford (0-6) failed to counter as the Pride (1-2) preserved its first win of the season. Greensboro now holds a 10-9-4 edge in the all-time series with the Quakers.

Greensboro enjoyed a 24-7 edge in shots and had all seven of the game’s corner kicks. Gove finished with eight saves, six in the second half, and anchored a defense that kept the Pride off the board for most of the night. Greensboro’s Jessica Thatcher had three stops in goal and earned her first shutout of the season.

Guilford returns to action Saturday (9/14) at Randolph-Macon College in the Quakers’ Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.
