Elon Women’s Soccer Cruises to 3-0 Win Over TAMCC

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Two second-half goals and a stellar defensive effort helped the Elon University women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Islanders on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational.

Elon improves to 4-1-1 with the victory, while TAMCC falls to 1-5 with the setback.

“I’m happy with how we bounced back today following Friday night,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal. “We played hard today and battled for all 90 minutes.”

The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead in the 39th following a Kendall Stanley goal in front of the net, off her own rebound from a previous shot.

Nicole Dennion helped the maroon and gold extend its lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute after a taking a short pass from Kelly Siewers on the left side for the score. Dennion has scored a team-best six goals this season and is tied with The Citadel’s Mariana Garcia for the most goals in the Southern Conference.

Samantha Burch scored her first goal of the season in the 63rd minute to help the Phoenix to a 3-0 lead after knocking in a Kimmie Krauss cross from the left side.

Elon outshot TAMCC 18-3 and finished with a 5-3 edge in corners.

Kate Murphy played 80 minutes between the posts to earn the win.

Elon returns to action on Friday, Sept. 20, at 5:30 p.m. when it hosts Liberty at Rudd Field. Watch the game live on Phoenix All-Access.
