Greensboro College Pride Volleyball Splits USA South Matches

RALEIGH, NC—The Pride volleyball team played in a USA South Tri-match hosted by William Peace on Saturday, and fell in the first match 3-0 but followed up with a 3-0 victory.

In the first match of the game, Greensboro fell to the host team William Peace. In the first game, The Pride fell behind early but used a four point run to bring the score close, but was unable to come back dropping the game 25-17. In the second game, Greensboro would fall by a score of 25-13. In the third set, The Pride made a run after being down 15-9, bringing the score within one at 21-20, before falling 25-21.

Greensboro was led in the first match by Bari Tressler with a team high ten kills.

After the loss, Greensboro returned back to the court to face off against NC Wesleyan, in their second match of the day. In the match The Pride defeated The Bishops by scores of 25-10, 25-19, 25-15.

In the first game of the match, Greensboro used a five point run to close out the first game winning 25-10. In the second game, The Pride closed out the game with a 10-8 run to win it 25-19. Greensboro would fall behind early in the final game, but rallied back to win the game 25-15.

In the victory, The Pride were led by Liz Widenhouse with 16 kills and Dallas Hasty with 11 kills respectively. Cortland Phillips would pass for a match high 31 assists.

With the split, Greensboro moved to 6-8 overall on the season, and 2-1 in the USA South. The Pride will return to action on Tuesday, September 24 when they continue their road swing as they face The Panthers from Ferrum College.
